Selt Preperation

With effect from 12 November 2015, applications for Settlement (ILR) and Citizenship will need to be supported by evidence of Speaking and Listening ability as a result of success in one of the UKVI Life Skills Tests at a Home Office approved test centre. There are very few exemptions. The most common exemptions are that the applicant is from an exempted English-speaking Country or has a graduation certificate from a British University, or a graduation certificate from an overseas University (for a degree taught entirely in English), or is entitled to exemption for another reason (such as holding a qualification taken since October 2013 but which is still valid and/or which was used for a previously approved residency application of some type). OFQUAL registered qualifications are no longer accepted as evidence unless they have been used to support a previously approved residency / Visa application and also remain on the OFQUAL Register at the time of your upcoming application. See for details.

The latest details regarding UKVI Tests can be found on Government websites and on the websites of the two awarding bodies (British Council and Trinity College. We are a listed TRINITY College SELT Course Provider. It is now required to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in order to apply for British Citizenship or Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. SELTs have a short listening and speaking component intended to ensure applicants have a high enough level of English to be able to live in the UK. Currently there are only two approved SELT providers: Trinity College and IELTS

We are a listed SELT course provider from Trinity College. We offer 1 or 3 day courses to prepare students for the tests. These courses will familiarize students with the tests and focus on exam techniques and learning what the examiner is looking for so the students can best demonstrate their English ability.

All course materials are supplied; students are only required to bring pen and paper for their own notes. We also offer help with registration for the exams in a SELT centre.

Our course will prepare you for the speaking and listening tests by helping you understand what is in the test itself and explaining what the examiners are looking for in your answers. The goal of this course is to ensure you can best demonstrate your English ability.

Do I need any qualifications to take it?

No, our course is for any students planning to take the Trinity SELT. The course is not an English language preparation but our teachers will offer assessment and feedback on English levels. If you need extra practice or tuition we also offer a range of English classes and tuition.
